Created in 2008, with a 50 million euro endowment from Crédit Agricole SA, the Foundation, by virtue of its status and its proximity to regional entities and Banks, constitutes a pole of financial innovation which promotes the development of cooperation in favor inclusive and sustainable finance within the Group.

The Foundation was co-founded by Professor Yunus, founder of the Grameen Bank – the first microfinance bank – and Nobel Peace Prize winner 2006. With the Foundation, the Grameen network is expanding its activities and exploring new forms of inclusive finance.

Donors

The “Take-off Facility for Agricultural and Rural Microfinance in Africa”, set up in partnership with the French Development Agency (AFD), is a program which aims to strengthen microfinance institutions in Africa and support them towards financial sustainability.

Amundi has set up financing of 7 million euros for the Grameen Crédit Agricole Foundation through the “Finance and Solidarity” Fund. Amundi is thus committed alongside the Foundation to support it in promoting inclusive finance and entrepreneurship with social impact.

The European Investment Bank has granted the Foundation a € 12 million loan to support the development of microfinance in West Africa. This loan is part of the Cotonou Agreement, which saw the launch of a microfinance investment facility to promote the private sector and fight poverty in West African countries.

A loan of 14 million euros has been granted by Crédit Agricole CIB to the Foundation. This loan, in dollars and euros, helps finance the Foundation’s development plan, which has set itself the target of reaching a commitment portfolio of around 160 million euros by 2022.

Crédit Agricole Ile-de-France granted the Grameen Crédit Agricole Foundation a loan of 3 million euros. This funding aims to enable it to continue and increase its commitment to the financial inclusion of disadvantaged populations in the countries where it operates.

Within the framework of the programme for the financial inclusion of refugees and host communities, SIDA supports the Foundation through a grant equivalent to € 2.3 million for technical assistance, as well as a guarantee of €5 million to guarantee the loans granted by the Foundation to Ugandan MFIs.
