The Grameen Crédit Agricole Foundation is consolidating its support for the Sénégalaise des Filières Alimentaires (SFA)
A partner of the Grameen Crédit Agricole Foundation since 2013, the Sénégalaise des Filières Alimentaires (SFA) in Senegal is a social business which is developing an inclusive value chain from the production and marketing of rice. The SFA encourages the production of quality rice by small farmers in the Senegal River Valley under a long-term partnership. It gives them access to loans and technical support. The paddy is turned into white rice and brought on the Senegalese market under the Terral brand. The SFA thus contributes to the self-sufficiency goal of the country, which still imports 75% of the rice consumed at this time.
In 2017, the Grameen Crédit Agricole Foundation therefore stepped up the support it provides to this company, in which it holds 20% of the capital through a shareholders’ current account of €50,000. This brought its investment in the SFA to €393,000 at the end of 2017. 50% of the investments by the Foundation in social businesses are currently in the agri-foodstuff sector, of which 75% are in Sub-Saharan Africa.
